Miedema voted Football Player of the Year by the English press NOW

Vivianne Miedema was voted Football Player of the Year by the English press on Wednesday. The 23-year-old attacker from Arsenal finished second last season in the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) vote.

“With more assists than any other player, Vivianne has been very valuable this season,” said jury chairman Jen O’Neill in her judgment. “She’s also deadly effective for the purpose.”

“Her attitude sometimes makes it seem like it doesn’t take any effort at all, so her all-round qualities and football intelligence can be underexposed. She has performed at world level and is a more than justified winner.”

With the win of the prestigious prize, Miedema succeeds Nikita Parris (Manchester City) and Fran Kirby, who was the first to receive the award on behalf of Chelsea in the 2017/2018 season. In the season that ended prematurely due to the corona crisis, 88-time Orange international Miedema scored 29 goals in 22 league games.

The European season is not yet over for Miedema. On August 22, Arsenal will face Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. With ten hits, the Dutch is the top scorer of that tournament for the time being.
