Cigar hobbyist
Michael Jordan He says Tiger Woods he is one of the most important figures in the history of golf – attributing the credit for having transformed it from “white man sport” into a game for everyone.
It’s all part of the newly released footage of a 2017 interview with Cigar Aficionado … when MJ was asked who the GOAT – Tiger is or Jack Nicklaus?
“Obviously Jack won more during the time he played,” MJ said … “Tiger has evolved until he has crossed many different borders – where it’s not just the sport of a white guy.”
MJ says Woods paved the way for other minority golfers to get a hit on the big stage … which led to a wider audience and more interest in the game. In other words, Tiger made golf cool.
“Now, does this make it the biggest? It means it’s less than Jack – I think [the sentiment] it’s unfair “.
MJ noted at the time of the interview that Jack had 4 more than Tiger (now he has 3 since Tiger won the 2019 Masters) … but Jordan says that a comparison between apples and oranges is not exactly correct given who played at different times.
“I have won 6 championships, Bill Russell has won 11 – does this make Bill Russell better than me or does he make me better than him? No, because we played in different eras.”
“So when you try to equate who is the greatest of all time, it’s an unfair parallel. It’s an unfair choice. I think it’s those demons that obviously Tiger has had to live with and will be challenged, he will be evaluated on that but for me I think they are both fantastic. I would never say that one is bigger than the other. “
There’s more to the interview … Jordan also reveals that he smokes 6 cigars every day and tries to play 36-hole golf almost every day!
It’s so much golf !!
Jordan also opens up on his short baseball career – and explains why his stint in the minor leagues made him a better NBA in the long run.
