15-year-old Mallorca midfielder Luka Romero has said he doesn’t like being compared to the legendary Lionel Messi. Romero, who recently made his first team debut, said he wanted to make a name for himself in the world of football.

In June, Romero was in the spotlight to become the youngest player ever to play La Liga. He was brought to the bench by Mallorca to play in the final 10 minutes of the 2-0 defeat against any Real Madrid champions.

Before his debut on Romero’s senior team, the Spanish media had nicknamed him the “Mexican Messi” for the various similarities he shares with the Barcelona captain.

Romero, born in Mexico where his father played football, comes from an Argentine family. Like Messi, Romero also moved to Spain at a young age. The 15 year old has the left foot and has a style of play extremely similar to that of Messi.

“It annoys me because there is only one Messi and I want to make my name in football like Luka Romero,” the teenage feeling he told Fox Sports in an interview when asked about comparisons with the six-time winner of the Ball d Gold.

However, Romero named Messi and the Argentine captain Diego Maradona as his idols as he grew up.

“Messi and Maradona [are my idols]. My father showed me both videos. I have never met Messi correctly. I went to the [Barca] hotel team once and I took a photo with him but I don’t know him. It would be a dream to meet him. He has always been my idol and I would be so happy to meet him, “said Romero in the same interview, according to Goal.

The 15-year-old has multiple nationalities: Argentina, Mexico and Spain, but Romero wishes to represent Argentina at the highest levels. Romero, who has played six games for the Argentine Under 15 team, could play alongside his idol Messi for the Argentine national team in the coming years, provided that he continues to improve and deliver at club level.
