Messi and CR7 together again? Serie A and the football industry are hoping for it

From the dream of bringing Cristiano Ronaldo to Turin, to the dream of landing Lionel Messi in Milan. Serie A is preparing to live a new exciting transfer market session which, this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be less hot in terms of temperatures (given that it will end on October 5), but equally hot, given the hypothesis of seeing the Argentine champion with the Nerazzurri shirt.

Many have called it an impossible operation, primarily Beppe Marotta and Antonio Conte, respectively managing director and coach of Inter, others, such as the former Nerazzurri president Massimo Moratti, “a dream that can become reality”. This last hypothesis is the one most ridden by Inter fans and those who love Serie A, since in fact a dream has already come true: the arrival in black and white of Cristiano Ronaldo, the eternal rival of the flea.

True, the road leading to Lionel Messi it is very tortuous especially for economic reasons, as we speak of aoperation of around 500 million euros, between engagement, player’s card and commissions, divided as follows:

  • Wage: if Inter were to decide to submit a four-year period to the Argentine (a bit like Juventus did with Cristiano Ronaldo), he would have to guarantee Messi about 50 million euros net per season (almost 80 gross, already taking advantage of the so-called growth decree which would facilitate even the same champion).
  • Tag and commission costs: on the basis of the data available on the Transfermarkt website, the nerazzurri club is expected to pay around 114 million euros for the card (which could be reduced as Lionel Messi’s contract expires in 2021). To these, the costs of the various commissions should be added (which of course would also see the entourage of the Argentine talent at the table)

Lionel Messi at Inter: the advantages for Serie A

Leaving aside the economic and image return that Inter would have with Lionel Messi, an aspect highlighted in all areas by the previous CR7 (from sponsorships to social media), the Rosario champion would be an important purchase for the whole Serie A, both intended as competition as a league.

Starting from the value of the roses that currently make up the top Italian football championship, Lionel Messi (always analyzing Transfermarkt data) would increase the total value of the Serie A, bringing it from 4.57 billion euros to 4.8 billion euros. This means, for example, that Inter would become the most valuable club in terms of squad in Serie A, stealing the scepter from Juventus.

And it did not end here, quite the contrary. Larrival of Lionel Messi and the possibility of seeing him again in the same championship with Cristiano Ronaldo would be one of the most coveted wishes by the sponsors and by the same national and international broadcasters who would be willing to shell out more to the league and TV rights clubs. Andrea Agnelli, president of Juventus, in an interview a few months ago on Radio 24 was the first to admit it: “If everyone in Serie A had a champion like Ronaldo and Messi, it would be ideal to reposition the Italian championship at the level international. Our problem is abroad, where trying to see the Serie A championship is a way of the cross. “

A via crucis, among other things, has become interminable even in these months in which Covid-19 has inevitably affected the world of football and in particular the world of TV rights, ended in a legal dispute between the Serie A and Sky League . To say that Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi together could solve it is, perhaps, a too risky hypothesis, but in the end it is not really far from reality, given that the two champions would attract other platforms to them, as they have already done ready to grab their challenges. And Amazon’s rise to football could be an example.

Finally, in addition to the fact that unquestionably the Italian stadiums would become even more fascinating and full frames (gradually given the emergency), Serie A would acquire more bargaining power against all those investment funds who are ready to put fragments of the top Italian football championship in their portfolio. True, Messi at Inter is a dream, but the image of the flea on the Milan Cathedral is far from a shadow.
