Elvis Merzlikins joined the game in the middle of the second period. He repulsed 12 of 13 opponents’ shots, being beaten only once after coming to the field when the season’s best bomber David Pastrņāks threw the puck into his goal. In the one-and-a-half attack, the puck bounced off his goal in front of the goal, the Czech striker deceived Merzlikin and slipped the puck between his bodyguards. Merzlik then broke out with a great puck repulsion in the second half of the third period.
In the first half of the match, Finnish goalkeeper Jonas Korpisalo was at the Blue Jackets goal. He dealt with all 11 throws from his opponents, standing dry in the time allotted to him.
Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella has not yet publicly revealed who will be the team’s main goalkeeper in the upcoming “play-in” series against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The coach previously told the media that he would do so only the day before the match.
