Paul Merson told Sky Sports that he reported that Arsenal target John Stones will surely leave Manchester City this summer.

According to 90 minutes, Arsenal is ready to make a move for Stones of £ 50 million, which faces an uncertain future in the city.

Mikel Arteta has previously worked with international England and is said to be thrilled to give Stones the chance to demonstrate his quality with the Gunners.

And Merson thinks that the 26-year-old could still prove to be a valuable signature for those who receive it.

“The city needs to buy defenders, and it’s potentially more than one,” said Merson. “The stones will go away because it doesn’t ring, but what are the central halves for City?

“Stones has the potential to be exceptional, really, but he needs trust.”

If Arsenal were to land Stones, he would have arrived at the Emirates stadium with a point to prove.

The former Everton man has lost his place alongside Pep Guardiola after one too many displays scattered by mistake.

Stones certainly has the technical ability to adapt to Arsenal’s style under Arteta, but it remains to be seen if he would prove more reliable than their current central defender options.

Arsenal already has too many accident-prone central defenders and Stones would need to eliminate the misadventures from his game if he were to move to the Emirates stadium.
