Matt Tripp, chairman of Melbourne Storm, says club Cameron Smith is determined to stay at the club whether he decides to continue playing next year or not.

The Queensland and Kangaroos veteran is out of contract at the end of the season and has yet to reveal whether he wants to lace the boots in 2021.

Courier Mail Rugby League reporter Peter Badel said NRL 360 If he was responsible for the Broncos last night, he would try to recruit Smith to play for them next season, and then offer him a deal to keep him in Brisbane and a cultural overhaul of the NRL power plant monitor.

The Broncos have won only three games all year round and are at their lowest. Everything about the way the club works is being questioned, and coach Anthony Seibold is under pressure to keep his job even though he is one in the second year Five-year contract.

Smith is from Queensland, and in a statement today, Badel argued that he was the perfect man to lift the Broncos off his knees on and off the field.

But if Brisbane follows this advice, it will have to fight the storm that Smith plans to have in Melbourne after his retirement.

“Cameron is under contract until the end of the year. Sometime next month, we’ll either try to renegotiate a contract for Cameron as a player, or we’ll try to arrange something for him, which will hopefully keep him engaged and part of the Melbourne Storm for years to come, ”Tripp said SEN breakfast.

“First of all, I would try to convince him to stay. It is so important for our club.

“Whether this is a playful quality or whether this is one of the coaches sitting on our board, Cameron has many options for what he can do. All of these options, in my opinion, affect the Melbourne Storm and certainly not a club in Queensland. “

Melbourne is puzzled over what to do with its hookers in 2021. This season, the West Tigers loaned Harry Grant, a young weapon, so that he could gain first-class experience instead of getting stuck in the reserve class behind Smith all year round.

Grant has an outstanding season and leads the Dally M rankings after 11 laps. He has announced that he will be returning to Melbourne at the end of the year, but if Smith wants to continue playing, the 22-year-old may be more likely to pursue opportunities elsewhere than play the second violin.

The storm also has kiwi test rake Brandon Smith in their books, but its versatility has got it off the bench and played in the back row, or taken over from Smith’s hook duties when the 37-year-old halves in a game .

The option for Smith to play halfback next year was raised as a possible solution to the trio’s satisfaction. In this scenario, if Smith agrees to play the first receiver, Grant could join Hooker and Brandon Smith could stay on the bench or move to the second row.
