Manchester United: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer greets his team’s fitness levels

Solskjaer’s Manchester United haven’t lost since January

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says his Manchester United players are in better shape than they have been for years.

Solskjaer ended last season when he won two of his last 12 games and lost the Champions League due to lack of fitness.

The Norwegian, who replaced Jose Mourinho in December 2018, believes that the hard work on the 2019 summer tour in Perth is paying dividends.

“We are fit, very fit,” said Solskjaer, whose team is currently in fifth place.

Fitness was addressed in the early days of Solskjaer’s first pre-season tour as head of United in Australia last summer.

“It was a great thing towards the end of last season when we felt that our team was not fit enough and we had some injuries,” he said.

“We haven’t had this kind of problem this season. Our kids haven’t felt as fit as this year.”

United will need that physical form over the next 11 days as they face three Premier League games, starting on Thursday’s trip to Crystal Palace, in addition to Sunday’s FA Cup semifinal with Chelsea at Wembley.

Solskjaer is looking to win his first trophy as a United manager, but he is aware that Chelsea have two more days of preparation for the semifinal after Tuesday’s win against Norwich.

“Forty-eight hours is a big difference right now [of the season] so there haven’t been four aces in the past two weeks, “he said.

“But we will have to wear a poker face and play the cards well.”
