Manchester United: LIVE news and transfers Jadon Sancho on Man Utd and Gabriel Magalhaes

How United chose the transfer targets

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer initiated the Manchester United process in assessing the suitability of the transfer targets.

United’s most recent relocation activity came in January when they loaned Odion Ighalo and signed a permanent deal for Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes’ signing proved to be a Solskjaer’s master stroke, with the Portuguese director scoring six goals and scoring four assists in the Premier League to help United reach third place.

Solskjaer revealed to the High Performance podcast that he had a conversation with former United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo about the former Sporting Lisbon star, with Fernandes’ personality a big factor in this move.

“You have the main scouts and analyzes that divide it down to the smallest detail. But talk to teammates who may have played with him for the international team. So obviously Cristiano was an easy goal for me to get past Patrice [Evra], I managed to get Cristiano and his recommendation obviously supports him.

“I think for international English, for example, you talk to Marcus [Rashford].

“What do you think of your teammate? Do you think it will adapt? Harry Maguire, for example, follow his Instagram account, Twitter, see what kind of personalities they are. Mick Phelan had it on the hull. And we know pretty much everything we need to know about a personality.

“You can’t do it every time, sometimes you have to have a suspect. You also look at human qualities. “
