Man United beat City to sign a £ 90m star, the Chelsea midfielder had to leave

What a strange end to the season for Manchester United.

I say strange only because at the end of last season, and at the beginning of this, it seemed that Solskjaer’s experiment was running out of steam and that he would be the last manager not to carry on the club after Sir’s departure Alex Ferguson.

But then Bruno Fernandes came, Paul Pogba looks happier, Greenwood is a world-class player under construction – everything looks rosy. The idea then of suddenly attaching Man City to signatures doesn’t actually seem so extravagant – it would have done so 12 months ago.

Meanwhile, Burnley boss Sean Dyche knows the club has a tough summer ahead. The last one is below.

City and United chase Koulibaly + Skriniar

Manchester City and Manchester United have both had a strong interest in Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Inter Milan’s Skriniar.

Both clubs are keen to strengthen their central defender options this summer.

Koulibaly has been cited as the main target, although The Independent reports that the club has been told that Inter would be interested in a potential exchange involving Sergio Aguero and Skriniar.

Koulibaly has long been at the top of United’s list of potential defensive additions, which could very well put them in a bidding war with City.

Juventus offer the escape to Jorginho

Juventus will give Jorginho an escape route with the Chelsea midfielder, who will still have to play one minute after the return of the Premier League.

The ex Napoli ace was associated with a third meeting with Maurizio Sarri after exchanging Miralem Pjanic with Arthur last week.

According to TuttoSport, this did not dissuade the giants of the Serie A from chasing the Italian this summer.

Before the coronavirus broke, Jorginho had turned into an integral figure under Frank Lampard this season, making 26 league appearances and scoring four goals but he has been fighting for minutes since then.

Upamecano contract decision

Red Bull Leipzig expects defender Dayot Upamecano to sign an extension of the contract to prevent him from leaving with a free transfer next year.

Upamecano is a transfer target for Arsenal, while it is also highly valued by Man Utd.

The Bundesliga team would prefer to cash in on the 21-year-old now rather than lose compensation completely in the future, but they are confident that he will follow Timo Werner’s lead and write new terms before moving on later.

“I suppose he [Upamecano] will also play for us next season. We are in good discussions to find a solution that will prevent him from leaving with a free transfer next year, “Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff told Kicker.

Transfer window test difficult for Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche admits that he has to face a tough test in the transfer window if he wants to attract young players who can challenge his initial XI.

“Very good players who are young cost a lot of money,” said the chief of the Clarets.

“So unless you can take them through your system with people like Dwight McNeil, then it costs a lot of money, so it’s really simple.

“I don’t think anything is impossible in football, but the possibilities become more difficult.”
