Lydia Williams joins Catley & Foord at Arsenal

Another Westfield Matildas star is in England, with Lydia Williams signing a one-year contract with Arsenal.

Williams joins Westfield teammates Matildas Caitlin Foord and Steph Catley to the Gunners ahead of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League season.

The goalkeepers’ move brings six Westfield Matildas to the FAWSL, along with his teammates from Arsenal and Sam Kerr (Chelsea), Hayley Raso (Everton) and Chloe Logarzo (Bristol City).

“Having the opportunity to come and play with some of the best players in the world is really exciting,” Williams told Arsenal.com.

“I remember seeing Arsenal as a kid, so it’s great to be part of this team. I can’t wait to meet all my teammates. “

“This is another really important signature for us,” said head coach Joe Montemurro.

“With the wealth of experience that Lydia offers, she can help the younger players we have, but above all she is a great player who will be solid and really contribute to the group.”

Williams, who made his Westfield Matildas debut in 2005, made nearly 90 appearances for the national team, including participation in four FIFA Women’s World Cup tournaments.
