Liverpool sell Dejan Lovren to Zenit St. Petersburg

Liverpool

It’s finished Dejan Lovren’s career with Liverpool. The Croatian passport defender was officially released by the Reds to Russian League champions Zenit St Petersburg.

The certainty of Lovren’s transfer was officially announced on the 2019/2020 English League champions’ website on Monday (7/27/2020). It was not mentioned how much Lovren’s transfer was nominal, but British media estimated it at 11 million paun (Rp 205 billion).

Lovren was bound by a three-year contract by Zenit and got a raise in salary from the one he received at Liverpool. During the red-red uniform, Lovren was paid 5.2 million pounds per season.

“Everyone at Liverpool would like to thank Dejan for their contributions over the years and wish them all the best for their new challenges,” the official Liverpool statement said.

Lovren, who was bought 20 million from Southampton in 2014, has 185 appearances for Liverpool and scored eight goals. His best season was arguably when he played 43 times in 2017/2018 and made two goals in all competitions.

However, hurricane injuries and blunders make his career heaving with Liverpool. This season, Lovren has only appeared 15 times with one goal and became the fourth choice defender behind Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez.

With the contract remaining for another year with Liverpool, then the best way is to sell it this summer. Dejan Lovren’s sale money is said to be used to bring Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.

“He was very important to us from my first day here. Yes, another legendary player left the club,” said Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp.

“I pray for the best for her,” Klopp continued.
