Liquidation and demotion in sight for Rennes – Fil Info – Ligue A

The Rennes volleyball team, performing well on the field but weighed down by its financial difficulties, should be liquidated at the end of the week and leave the 3rd division (“Elite”) with the amateurs of the Rennes student club (REC), a- we learned Wednesday from a source close to the case. On the judicial front, “a hearing took place Monday” and the liquidation of Rennes Volley 35 could be pronounced “for this weekend”, declared the AFP Me Olivier Géral, REC lawyer. On the sporting front, the REC made a commitment at the end of June to ensure the continuity of professional volleyball in the Breton city, but even if Rennes rivaled the best last season, there will be no Rennes club in Ligue A ( LAM) or in League B (LBM) next season. According to the lawyer, who does not exclude new appeals to try to win “a place in the pro league”, the governing bodies of volleyball are on “a very marked position and want the club to start again in elite”, the 3rd level national after the LAM and the LBM. The financial gendarme (DNACG) did not grant approval to the pro team and on Tuesday, the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) rejected an appeal from the REC against this decision, considering that it concerned Rennes Volley 35, explained Mr. Géral. According to the lawyer, some players should stay in the new formation next season, with the aim of bringing it up quickly, because “their place is at least in League B”. Rennes, long at the top of the championship before the final end of the season because of the Covid-19 pandemic, is facing a hole in its coffers of 300,000 to 400,000 euros, or about 20% of the season’s budget. A takeover project led by international Kevin Le Roux was rejected in June by the financial policeman of volleyball.
