Lashenko: It is important for the members of the federation to have a person from the football family with them

At Friday’s LFF congress, the president of the Latvian Indoor Football Association (LTFA) Lashenko received 96 votes, but his competitor, the Minister of the Interior Sandis Ģirģens (KPV LV) received 26 votes. Six delegates abstained.

Lashenko was elected for the next four years.

“Many thanks to all members for their trust. For my part, I will do my best to improve LFF’s reputation and achieve positive results,” Lashenko said at the press conference.

His team roughly reckoned with such a result, so the 96 votes received were neither a positive nor a negative surprise.

“A few days before the congress, when we contacted the members, we realized that there was support, and the result is likely to be positive. It is important for LFF members to have a person from the football family with them. I know their problems and see solutions immediately,” Lashenko said. .

The new board will probably meet together next Wednesday, when the Secretary-General’s issue will also be discussed. Edgar Pukinsky currently holds this position. Yuri Andrejev was confirmed as the sports director in another influential position this week.

“In our opinion, it was not ethical, because one of the candidates for this position wanted to see another person. We will discuss this issue at the next board meeting. We will invite him to listen to his proposed strategy,” Lashenko said.

After being elected president of the LFF, Lashenko promises to resign from his powers in the indoor football association.

“I am not ready to name my successor at the moment, but an extraordinary board meeting could consider the question of who could take my place until the next LTFA congress,” Lashenko revealed.

Lashenko also stressed that he is ready to disclose all the necessary information about income from his business. He and his mother have a Latvian company that works with the furniture trade and project development.

The new president of the LFF also confirmed the announcement already before the 2018 elections that in case of his victory, “LNK Group”, with which Lashenko has close ties, will not participate in the competitions organized by the LFF.

Lashenko also reaffirmed the announcement before the election that he intended to work in a paid position in order to devote sufficient time to the duties of the LFF president.

The election congress was scheduled for April 24, but had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

At the LFF Extraordinary Congress last October, members decided to remove Kaspars Gorkš, President of the organization. He was elected President of the LFF last year for two years, replacing Guntis Indriksons. At that time, the former Latvian indoor football player Lashenko and Krišjānis Kļaviņš also applied for the position of president.

After Gorkys’ release, the LFF has worked without a president until today, but LFF Secretary General Edgars Pukinsk had the right to sign.

Lashenko is the fifth president of the LFF in the history of the organization. From 1990 to 1995, the president of the organization was Vladimir Leskov, from 1995 to 1996 the organization was headed by Modris Supe, since 1996 Indrikson has been the president of LFF, resigning in 2018, when LFF members elected Gorkš to this position.

Lashenko has led the LTFA since 2014, but since 2017 he has also been working as a UEFA delegate. Prior to that, he was vice president and board member of the RFS club for two years. Lashenko has also worked as an assistant football referee.

It is significant that during the last year and a half LFF has held a total of six congresses.
