Klopp: Records are never thought of

Jakarta

The records became the next target for Liverpool after winning the Premier League this season. But for Juergen Klopp, there’s no point in thinking too much about records.

Liverpool, as is known, has been confirmed to be the Premier League champions this season. Now ‘The Red’ can shift its focus to chasing records set by their closest rivals in recent seasons, Manchester City.

Some of the records include the most wins in a season (32), the most points (100), also the largest margin (19). Citizens carved those records when they won two successive seasons in 2017/2018 and 2018/2019.

A 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Anfield on Sunday (07/07/2020) West Jakarta Time brought Liverpool closer to the record. The results were at once returned them to the correct track after losing 0-4 from City.

Now Liverpool have collected 89 points from 33 matches and can collect a maximum of 15 more points. They have 29 wins so far, while the margin with City in second place is 23 points.

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp insists his focus is festive victory after victory. The record problem is solved or not, will be seen later.

“The only thing I can say is there is no chance to win a record if you keep thinking about it. We don’t want a record, we want three points,” he told Sky Sports quoted BBC.

“We don’t think about these kinds of things, just three points is difficult enough. Today Aston Villa struggles with all their abilities and makes things uncomfortable.”

“I like this, it is not a brilliant performance from the team but it was a good performance, which produced three points for us,” he added.
