Kepa is “leaving” Chelsea after “arguing” with Lampard, Bosnich says

A former Blues shooter cannot see any return for the Spaniard after his omission from the last game of the season

Kepa Arrizabalaga will be “on the road” out of Chelsea this summer, according to Mark Bosnich, who suggested that the goalkeeper under fire fell out with Frank Lampard.

Chelsea grossed a record £ 72 million ($ 93 million) commission to bring Kepa to Stamford Bridge from the Athletic Club in the summer of 2018.

The 25-year-old was drafted to replace Thibaut Courtois following the Belgian’s move to Real Madrid, and was quickly pushed deep by Maurizio Sarri.

Kepa’s first year in West London was disappointing, with his most important moment when he refused to replace himself during the final defeat of the Blues’ Carabao Cup in Manchester City.

Frank Lampard has kept faith with the Spanish national team after taking over from Sarri last year, but has continued to fall below the required standard among the clubs.

Chelsea conceded 54 Premier League goals in 2019-2020, more than any other team in the top 10, and Kepa was eliminated from Lampard’s formation following his last questionable performance in a 5-3 defeat in Liverpool on 22 July.

Willy Cabellero requested the Spaniard for the victory of the last day against the Wolves, with Lampard admitting after the game that the most expensive “custodian in history has had a” difficult time “in recent times.

Bosnich thinks that Kepa’s time at Chelsea has already expired, and that his old club cannot afford to leave a top scorer on the bench and conclude his contract.

“When a big club that has been challenging for honors buys a goalkeeper, it’s right there and right now,” said the former Blues stopper Sky Sports.

“It didn’t have a particularly good season and the result is that you had a fight with the manager in any way, it’s a slippery track.

“So I can fully understand that Frank basically wants to go up that level and say ‘look, listen, it’s not just for me, I want someone else.’

“If so, then there will be a problem since the club has paid out so much money for him. I don’t think they will be able to recover that money, they may be able to recover some.

“And of course the goalkeeper can make it very difficult for Chelsea by saying that if you leave me out of the team, I will stay here with these high wages and run my contract for nothing.

“They have a great decision to make. I think it is quite evident from what we have seen, and from the fact that he has not played in the last game of the season, which will be on his way.”
