Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers says James Maddison and Ben Chilwell are both “big doubts” about Tuesday’s game against Arsenal.

Maddison missed Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace with a hip injury, while Chilwell was replaced midway after suffering a foot injury at King Power Stadium.

Rodgers admits that the couple may lose the trip to the Emirates and continue living Sky Sports, while Leicester tries to consolidate his place in the top four with a victory over the Gunners.

“We have doubts about James Maddison and Ben Chilwell. They are the two who could fight but we will see how they are today,” Rodgers told the pre-game press conference.

“We just have to wait and see. There are many doubts about both.

“Ben is his plantar fascia, the lower part of the foot, which is causing him pain. We will only have to evaluate it and see what the specialists say.

“You can play it but obviously there are times when you feel real pain, so it’s just trying to manage it.

“They will both be big doubts about the game, but maybe we’ll give them a chance.”

Maddison and Jamie Vardy both scored in a 2-0 win for Leicester in the return game in November – a result that contributed to Unai Emery’s dismissal later that month.

His permanent replacement, Mikel Arteta, has led Arsenal for four straight wins in the past few weeks and Rodgers believes the Spaniard is laying the groundwork for future success in North London.

“I think Mikel has done very, very well since he entered,” added Rodgers.

“He entered a club with high expectations, which he knows he is a player there. He entered his first job, a huge task, and I think the way he has dealt with it so far has been exceptional.

“From a tactical point of view, he clarified how they want to play. The style, you can see.

“This is not a simple style to implement and implement, especially in a club that wants to be a challenge immediately.

“Since he entered, his courage wants to develop it. They played with a couple of different systems, but the style has always remained the same. It is something that bodes well for the future and for him.”

Leicester remains third in the Premier League despite a recent drop in form that has seen only one win out of five games since the resumption of the season.

Chelsea are only one point behind the Foxes in fourth place, with Manchester United two points behind, but Rodgers is confident that his team can cope with the pressure from running in.

Asked if his team could see the challenge of their rivals and qualify for the Champions League, Rodgers added: “There is absolutely no doubt.

“We have shown over 33 games to our talent. Okay, maybe we miss some players who have helped us in that way, but as a team we are very focused on reaching him.

“We will fight to the last whistle to finish as high as possible.”
