Do you think that in 10 years there will be a possibility of the Washington Redskins returning shirts? Or will the logo and mascot simply be avoided from the league?

The franchise does not remove the name and logo in order to celebrate it for posterity later. It would miss the point. More like a smell on it.

Referring to Eddie Mathews’ question from Matthias de San Antonio yesterday, Mathews is the answer to this trivial MLB question: “Who was the only major league player to have played for the same franchise in three different cities?”

One year each in Boston and Atlanta sandwiched 13 years in Milwaukee. Pretty cool. Timing is everything.

That feeling that you feel in your stomach when something serious is about to happen, well, I have that feeling in reference to NFL football. But I don’t know if it’s not for the best. When do we put money in front of people’s lives? I know we have to open the country slowly and responsibly, but are the professional sports involved worth the risk of someone losing their life? And I’m a sports fanatic. Is my train of thought wrong? Can we do it responsibly? What are your thoughts?

I have been struggling with these issues since March. To include a submission from Julian of Gastonia, NC, it is also disturbing to think that people with high BMIs are among those most at risk for the seriousness of COVID-19. Soccer players are in excellent cardiovascular shape, but that doesn’t change the fact that many walk around with a lot more weight than your average man. The long-term effects of contracting this virus are also so little known, no matter how quickly or how easily a person recovers from an initial infection. But football is inherently risky anyway, and the economy is a must. There are no easy answers in my mind.

Since the typical NFL career is much shorter than that of other sports, I doubt that opt-out is a good concept. Unless the player has a long term contract with many guarantees, he would be faced with a very difficult decision to maintain his value in relation to the long term health risk. Doesn’t that seem unfair to players with contract years or those on the player bubble? On top of that, the NFL product could take another substantial hit of a season without its biggest stars, I suppose.

These are also all valid questions. The vast majority of players on the NFL rosters are not in a financial or professional position to retire for a year and assume they have a place in 2021. There will be pressure to play more than in other sports. Competition in the NFL is unforgiving.

Your “Very good then” response to the first question in yesterday’s inbox made me think. If you could use .gif files to respond to II submissions, which one do you think would be used the most?

Based on the team changes from last year’s team, which area or facet of the game do you think is best placed to outpace last year’s team? And who faces the biggest challenge of meeting last year’s game?

It’s a broad answer, but I think the potential progress of the entire offense in the second year of the LaFleur diet is intriguing. The unit now has a three-headed back field, promising tight-fitting youth and considerable growth potential at the receiver (more Devin Funchess in the mix), with Aaron Rodgers having greater control of the overall system. As long as the offensive line maintains its high collective level without Bulaga, there is much to like. On the other hand, the performance of the pass rush will be the most difficult to repeat. Statistics show five games of four or more bags. The eye test revealed that the quarterbacks were constantly harassed. Both are tall bars to match while simultaneously setting the defense against running.
