Horst Hrubesch becomes the young director at HSV. The club legend is supposed to bring talent training up to scratch. His references for this are excellent. Hrubesch tackles the new task with the straightness that is typical of him.
Dhe former goal scorer and long-time DFB coach Horst Hrubesch becomes junior director at Hamburger SV. The 69-year-old Hrubesch, as the person in charge of the young talent center, is said to significantly drive “the processes in talent development”.
From 2000 to 2016, Hrubesch worked in the youth division of the German Football Association in various functions. In 2008 he became European Champion with the U 19 and 2009 with the U 21. In 2016, Hrubesch won the silver medal with the Olympic selection in Rio de Janeiro.
From 1978 to 1983 he scored 96 goals for HSV in 159 games. Most recently, he was the interim coach for the German women’s national team from March to November 2018.
“In the discussions I got the impression that HSV has now taken the right path. Football is not about talking smart, it’s about hard work, hard work, patience and conviction. This is the only way to get ahead, ”Hrubesch was quoted in the association’s announcement. “Here again, we need to talk more about football and work on it.”
Last season, HSV had again missed promotion to the Bundesliga and then separated from head coach Dieter Hecking. The former HSN professional is the former Osnabrücker Daniel Thioune.

The duration of the collaboration with Hrubesch was left open. “I am available as long as we advance in this team with a goal and diligence and I also enjoy it,” said Hrubesch. “Working with young people always has something to do with patience. My aspiration and my expectation are just that everyone involved fully depends on their strengths. Then we are guaranteed to progress step by step, ”the new director was quoted as saying.
HSV sports director Jonas Boldt said: “He has an enormously valuable wealth of experience, hits the right tone when dealing with young footballers and is also a real HSV player.”
