Gabriel Magalhaes is expected to leave Lille

Manchester United are monitoring Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes, with Everton, Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain engaged in a match to sign the central defender.

The 22-year-old is on United’s radar as age, potential and price – in the £ 20 million region – are all in line with a possible move in Old Trafford.

However, Serie A Napoli remains the favorite for the Brazilian’s signing, as he remains in talks with Lille after concluding the signing of striker Victor Osimhen for £ 45 million.

Gabriel was given more time to decide his future after Paris Saint-Germain joined the race to sign it and an unnamed Premier League club made a delayed offer that is believed to exceed £ 22 million.

Everton remains in the running to sign Lille’s player of the year after making an official offer in June.

The 22-year-old is expected to leave Lille this summer following the reduction of the April 2019/20 campaign.

Gabriel starred in a Lille team that came fourth in Ligue 1, helping them get a spot in next season’s Europa League.

He joined the French club in 2017 after arriving from Brazil and has since made 52 appearances.

Who is Gabriel?

Gabriel started his career in Avai, which currently plays in the second tier of Brazilian football. After 21 appearances, he moved to Europe in January 2017, signing for Lille for £ 1.5 million.

He initially struggled to adapt to senior football in Lille and went on loan twice, first in Troyes, where he spent the first half of the 2017/18 season before temporarily moving to Dynamo Zagreb in January 2018.

The first team’s opportunities continued to elude him, moving between the reserve and senior teams before returning to Lille for the start of the 2018/19 season.

Gabriel took the time to cement himself on the side, not starting a Ligue 1 game until February 2019. But he hasn’t looked back since; forging a relatively successful partnership with former Southampton player Jose Fonte in the center of the center back.

After a seven-year absence, Gabriel helped Lille qualify for the Champions League in 2018/19, finishing second in Ligue 1 at PSG.

Gabriel has continued his rise this season, with a string of impressive performances both in the national team and in the Champions League.
