LaLiga has proposed the definitive suspension of the match that Deportivo de La Coruña and Fuenlabrada had to play last Monday in Riazor and that had to be postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak that arose in the Madrid club. Given the “impossibility of setting a date that is not even probable” for the holding of this meeting, taking into account that the total number of infected in Fuenlabrada amounts to 28 people, the club’s employers have transferred to the Competition Committee “their agreement with the definitive suspension of the match due to exceptional causes and / or force majeure ”.
The decision means that Elche will be the team that plays the ‘playoffs’ for promotion to First, being the sixth classified, since they could have reached Fuenlabrada if they could have prevailed in Riazor.
The decision of the League came after the Fuenlabrada issued a statement in which it expressed its desire to dispute the match, although it stressed that it would abide by any decision that the sports institutions might adopt in this regard.
“In no case do we feel responsible for the unfortunate problem that has arisen on the final day of the Second Division, but rather one of its main victims, since it has truncated the illusion of finding a place in the phase of promotion to the First Division”, the Madrid club affirms in the note. “We are aware of having strictly followed the protocols and of having followed the instructions that LaLiga has indicated to us at all times, which has not prevented the current situation. We understand that without any fault we are at the center of a problem that also affects four clubs: Zaragoza, Almería, Girona and Elche, which are also pending their legitimate ambition to play the promotion playoff, “the statement continues.

For all this “and with the greatest responsibility, for the health reasons of which we are affected, we put ourselves in the hands of sports institutions in search of the best solution for those affected by the Covid-19 and the competition. We must transfer that both the players and the coaching staff are fully prepared to recover and play the game if this is estimated. Furthermore, “in the event that the authorized sports institutions do not consider the match to be viable, in time and form, CF Fuenlabrada will abide by the decision made by them,” the text remarks.
