Eintracht Frankfurt: Kevin Trapp as an object of speculation

WITHu have seen Kevin Trapp again and again in the past few weeks, he is not really submerged. Why too? The goalkeeper of Frankfurt Eintracht knows the stage that the Internet offers with its many possibilities worldwide, to best use for self-expression. Also happy on vacation. The 30-year-old model athlete gave some insights into his private life, which he spent in a visibly pleasant environment on an island in Greece.

If the Hessians start preparing for the season on Monday and Tuesday in several groups with the necessary performance and corona tests, Trapp will be physically in excellent shape as always – the images that show him during his sporting activities leave no doubt about that. But what about his state of mind right now? From a distance, the goalkeeper had to get the impression that Eintracht would not be ungrateful due to financial considerations if his job changed soon. Therefore, many are now looking forward to what the goalkeeper has to say after weeks of silence. If he likes to comment on the matter. In order to find the right tone, he probably needs a lot of tact.

During the summer break, Trapp was one of the main topics at Eintracht. He made the headlines and was literally an object of speculation. It was definitely not planned by him, especially not in this way. But it was hardly possible for him to defend himself in his absence. The club’s managers, above all the chairman of the supervisory board Wolfgang Steubing and sports director Fredi Bobic, had declared the goalkeeper and the leading player more or less directly as a valuable sales candidate. They were sure of the surprise of many. Even at Trapp himself, the astonishment at this move was great, unless he had previously forced a club change in the background. So far, however, this has not been announced by any party, such behavior by the goalkeeper would also have been unexpected. At any rate, Trapp hadn’t let himself get into debt. And it didn’t sound like he was suddenly unwanted in Frankfurt.

The club leaders explained their actions to put Trapp on the transfer carousel as a potential best seller, but rather with the economic constraints in the times of the Corona pandemic and the sharp drop in sales due to the crisis. The concord must necessarily save. And obviously she doesn’t stop at her large identification figure. In terms of high standards of sport, the goalkeeper himself also fell a little short of expectations. According to the Frankfurt way of thinking, which in this case has a lot to do with numbers, the sale of its flagship between the posts would make sense.

Because for Trapp, who has a long-term contract in Frankfurt until July 1, 2024, Eintracht not only has to pay more salary than for its nominal number two, Frederik Rönnow. Trapp is estimated to receive between four and five million euros a year as a major earner. In addition, the market value of the Stammkeepers is significantly higher than that of the Dane, who the sporty management level with trainer Adi Hütter at the top would obviously trust to make the leap to regular strength. While the transfer proceeds to be achieved at Rönnow are stated at 2.5 million euros, at Trapp it is around eight million euros. This corresponds to the order of magnitude that Eintracht had to achieve a year ago when the goalkeeper finally returned from Paris Saint-Germain. At that time, Trapp was apparently dazzling for years as the royal solution for the Eintracht gate. And now his perspective in Frankfurt should suddenly be limited?

“Important face of Eintracht Frankfurt”

The discussion about Trapp is in full swing. And she won’t be stopped anytime soon, no matter what happens. There is a lot of talk about him in Frankfurt. But who spoke to him? Despite his vacation, the goalkeeper or his adviser may have contacted Bobic out of understandable interest. Or Trapp had already received an offer of conversation from the sports director, which is actually closer to the existing situation. Either way: there was enough need for explanation. And it continues to pass it on, as Bobic’s recent reaction shows. In an in-house interview, he emphasized that Trapp “as our number one is a very important part of the team”. “He is an important face of Eintracht Frankfurt and we absolutely know what we have in him.”

Sounds like Eintracht is rowing back vigorously. But she doesn’t, because Bobic continued with these words: “But there is one fact – and I had said nothing else in the past – that we cannot ignore: We have to focus more on the economic component than usual respect, think highly of. We cannot therefore categorically exclude the sale of high performers – regardless of Kevin. ”

The sports director nevertheless assumes that Trapp will “fulfill his contract”. “There is no doubt about Kevin Trapp’s performance and importance for the club,” said Bobic. Despite this statement, the discussions should not be silenced. Much will now depend on how Trapp reacts to the events in public. And where he sees his future in sports. If he were looking for a new employer – Hertha BSC Berlin should be interested – nobody could blame him. Trapp would save his face.
