Dear MU, Vertonghen Is Said to Fit a Duet with Maguire Here

Jakarta

Jan Vertonghen’s contract with Tottenham Hotspur has just ended. Manchester United are advised to recruit him to strengthen the defense.

Vertonghen, 33 years old, was started to be reserved last season by Jose Mourinho at Spurs, as the sign of the player who apparently did not want to survive in North London. Plus injury, he only appeared 23 times in the English League.

Although aged for the size of a defender, Vertonghen’s quality is still considered good. Moreover, he is still the first choice for the Belgian national team in European Cup Qualifiers.

Seeing Vertonghen’s free transfer situation, Jermaine Jenas also advised MU to recruit him. Former teammate Vertonghen, who is now a pundit, calls Vertonghen a match with Manchester United captain Harry Maguire.

“Jan Vertonghen is the best free center back you can find on the market,” Jenas said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“If you can put Harry Maguire as a right center back and on the left you have a ball-playing type of player, both of them can have a good impact, and he’s free.”

“Manchester United know what they have to do, they have a plan but they are defensively left behind. I know how good Vertonghen is.”

“I’m confused he is often reserved, even though he played well. I’ve played with him. I’ve watched him play. And now he is free to transfer, so it makes sense (if MU recruited him),” said the owner of 21 caps of the England national team.

If you want to get Jan Vertonghen’s signature, Manchester United seems to have to compete with Manchester City. The Red Devils’ city rivals are also reportedly interested in Vertonghen, as injury problems have surrounded Pep Guardiola’s squad defense throughout last season.
