Chelsea boosted Angel Gomes’ transfer while Manchester United confirmed their departure

Chelsea have been given a free path to sign Angel Gomes after Manchester United has confirmed that the midfielder has decided to leave the club.

The 19-year-old was one of 10 United players to see his Old Trafford deal expire on June 30, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team hoped to keep his services.

Several offers were presented to the teenager in an attempt to secure a new deal, but no extensions were agreed upon, making him a free agent ahead of the summer transfer window in a push for the Blues and manager Frank Lampard.

A United statement reads: “Manchester United can confirm that Angel Gomes has not accepted the offer of a new contract and therefore has left the club.

“The nineteen year old joined the Reds at a very young age and made his way through the ranks before becoming the first player born in the 2000s to represent the first team, replacing Wayne Rooney in the final game of the 2016/17 season, against the Crystal Palace.

“It means he has become the youngest player since Duncan Edwards made his senior debut for the club, immediately after receiving the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award.

“The offensive midfielder has scored 10 appearances in total for the Reds – three of which have started, all in the Europa League this season.

“His final exit came in Norwich City’s 4-0 defeat at Old Trafford in the Premier League in January. Everyone at Manchester United would like to wish Angel the best of luck in the future and thank him for his efforts for the club.” .
