Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are considering moves for Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old, who has been described as “the next Hugo Lloris”, has been called into several French teams as he tries to usurp the current number one in Les Bleus.
Maignan is a former U21 international and is awaiting his debut for Didier Deschamps’ senior team after his impressive performances in Ligue 1.
Since replacing Vincent Enyeama, Maignan has been superb among the sticks for Christophe Galtier’s team.
And according to Le10 Sport (as per Sport Witness), the Spurs are stuck with Chelsea in a £ 16 million transfer battle as they hope Maignan can replace Lloris at the club level first.
Jose Mourinho’s assistant, Joao Sacramento, knows Maignan from his spell with Lille and claims that the North London group is “monitoring the file very carefully”.
However, they face tough Blues competition with boss Frank Lampard still unsure of the world record that signs Kepa Arrizabalaga as his number 1.
Having already invested heavily in the likes of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, selecting Chelsea’s rearguard is Lampard’s next priority after seeing their hopes in the Champions League make a big hit on West Ham threatened with relegation.
Lille fully expect Maignan to leave this summer and brought Leo Jardim last summer and promoted promising Luca Chevalier to their first team.
