‘He can destroy any defender if he decides to’: Patrice Evra greets Anthony Martial’s return as he reveals that the Man United striker has been frustrated by Jose Mourinho’s decision to give Zlatan Ibrahimovic his jersey no. 9
- Anthony Martial is in the form of his Manchester United career this season
- The striker scored his first career hat-trick against Sheffield United last week
- Patrice Evra says United will now get the best of the 24-year-old
- Evra lifted the lid as regards Martial’s row with United on shirt no. 9
Patrice Evra has said that Manchester United will now get the best of striker Anthony Martial after the Frenchman’s recovery in form.
The 24-year-old is enjoying a purple patch ahead of the Red Devils goal this season, with a hat-trick against Sheffield United midweek bringing his Premier League goal to 14.
But after a difficult start to his career in Old Trafford, the former United Evra defender believes that Martial is able to kick and become one of the best options for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s team.

Martial scored a hat-trick against Sheffield United last week to bring his league count to 14 goals
Speaking before the clash between United and Brighton on Tuesday evening, Evra told Sky Sports: ‘From now on I think United will get the best of him, not for the hat-trick, but because he wants to be there for the club now.
‘If a defender can decide to destroy any defender, no defender can manage it.
‘That’s why it frustrates many people because they know his talent. He is one of the best attackers, but he lacks aggression, hunger and anger. “
Martial fell with Manchester United in 2016 when the club, later managed by Jose Mourinho, forced him to give up the number nine shirt for the new signature of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Instead, the Frenchman was given shirt no. 11 while Ibrahimovic has become the main center forward option for the Red Devils.
With the Swedish striker no longer at the club and Martial now trained by Solskjaer, Evra believes that the French striker is a more mature figure this season.
Evra added: ‘They disappointed him when they swapped the shirt with Zlatan.
‘We were on the national team [together] and he got the call and they said “you have to give your shirt No. 9”. And he said, “No, absolutely not.”
‘But later, Mourinho contacted him and said: “Zlatan will take No. 9 and you will take No. 11.”
Martial, now United’s number 9 again, is now a more mature figure, according to Evra
‘It won’t be like I’m going to say that Martial didn’t play well because of that jersey No, but start from there.
‘I remember that at the beginning of the season I went to Carrington, and Martial was really angry and frustrated because he was injured.
And I was like “wow, it’s really impressive because the last time I saw you you weren’t feeling this enthusiasm and now you’re hurt, you want to come back very quickly and make sure you can help the team”. “
Martial is now a key Manchester United player this season in the attack on the Red Devils
Martial is now an integral part of United’s attack, powered by other attackers Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Odion Ighalo.
The forward is supported by multipurpose midfielders Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, whom Evra believes will be the protagonists of the Red Devils in the coming years.
‘When you have players like Paul Pogba and Fernandes, you can immediately see the difference. You are about to create possibilities.
“Martial will smile today, Rashford will smile because when you have two geniuses like this behind the attackers, it is so important and you have to score goals and create many opportunities.”
