Brian Urlacher, Travis Kelce and DeMarco Murray join Jennifer Lopez-Alex Rodriguez to buy Mets

Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher, Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce and NFL attacking player of the year DeMarco Murray are among a group of investors who joined power couple Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez in the goal of buying the New York Mets.

The group has already tabled its initial offer of $ 1.7 billion. According to a New York Post report, hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen has so far bid up to $ 2 billion. Mets COO Jeff Wilpon would prefer to sell to the Rodriguez-Lopez group if his offer is close to the best offer at the end of the auction, according to the Post.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have such high quality individuals in our group,” Lopez and Rodriguez told ESPN.

The group is in standby mode and awaits word from MLB commissioner Rob Manfred regarding the next step in the process.

Rodriguez, who last played with the Yankees, and fiancée Lopez have invested $ 300 million of their own money in the offer. Other investors include future Hall of Fame offensive lineman Joe Thomas, who has spent his entire career with the Cleveland Browns, double Bradley Beal of NBA Washington Wizards stars, and Denver Nuggets center Mason Plumlee.

“Being a former athlete and having the chance to be part of a group trying to buy a professional team is pretty cool,” Urlacher told ESPN on Monday. “It’s especially cool to be involved with Alex. Alex is the man. You have Kelce, Joe Thomas, DeMarco Murray. It’s great to be in a group with them.”

Rodriguez was a 14-time star player in his baseball career with the Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and Yankees. He was the quintessential triple player in the American League, 1996 batting champion and World Series champion in 2009.
