Blue jackets wear outstanding “Let’s Play Bubble Hockey” shirts

The Columbus Blue Jackets are ready to play hockey in the bubble.

And maybe they squeeze themselves into bubble hockey?

The team appeared in Toronto on Monday in jerseys labeled “Let’s Play Bubble Hockey”, a reference to the classic table game.

In the middle of the jersey there was a distinctive bubble hockey character in the colors of blue jackets as well as an extra wide hockey stick like in the game.

Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno called the shirt maker Homage from Columbus on Twitter.

Tweet from @NickFoligno: Nice to be in “The Bubble”. Let’s go to work! Thank you @ HOMAGE for the great connection to the shirts for the team! pic.twitter.com/ZjTPhA5DAQ

The company told NHL.com that the shirt had come to life from Foligno’s idea and the creativity of the graphics team. Blue jackets goalkeeper Elvis Merzlikins acted as moderator, worked out the details of the equipment pick-up and collected the team’s jersey sizes.

“It was just something we were thinking about. I worked with these people with some charities. They are a great company,” said Foligno. “I thought about it just before we left, at the last minute so to speak, so I appreciate that they come up with something for us … Of course we know the seriousness of the situation, but you know we are just having a little bit of fun show some flair while we’re here … a lot of people liked (the shirts) and they actually feel very comfortable. “

Bubble hockey was a very popular table football game for the uninitiated that started in the 1980s. It got its name from the large plastic dome that covered the playing area (and yes, the puck often got stuck on the edges or behind the net, forcing the players to shake the table to free the puck.

Its popularity remains. Bubble hockey games are sold for hundreds and even thousands of dollars these days.

The response to the shirts was overwhelmingly positive, and Homage indicated that they might be available on their website soon.

In the meantime, everyone just has to see hockey in the bladder and wear something else.
