In the NFL, player scenarios change quickly. In the 2019-20 playoffs, San Francisco ball carrier Raheem Mostert emerged from behind the radar as a key playmaker in the 49ers’ Super Bowl race. Now he probably feels underrated.

On Wednesday, Mostert requested an exchange via his agent, Brett Tessler, who highlighted 5.6 yards per carrier for his client at the head of the league among the ball carriers.

Last off-season, Mostert signed an extension of $ 8.7 million over three years, mainly as a special teammate.

Mostert recorded 137 rush attempts for 772 yards and eight touchdowns in the 2019 season, and coupled with the 49ers’ decision to trade Matt Breida with the Miami Dolphins, the 28-year-old should see his workload increase as Tevin Coleman’s partner in the back field. . As a result, he wants appropriate compensation for an expanded role.

The 49ers hope to see Jerick McKinnon back in action after missing the past two seasons with knee injuries, although the double-threat hatchback is still on the road to recovery. For now, general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan must decide whether Coleman and Jeff Wilson Jr. have enough to carry out the ground attack or whether they must meet Mostert’s financial demands.

As the 49ers assess their options, we will examine the potential landing points for Mostert based on the form of the team and the need to run through the league.

The Atlanta Falcons signed Todd Gurley in April, and he will likely replace Devonta Freeman, whom they released in March, as the main ball carrier if he is healthy. Offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter could use Brian Hill and Ito Smith to spell the fleeing star, but the front office can add Mostert to form a stronger tandem.

Although Gurley successfully completed the Falcons physique, his knee problems could lead to a lighter workload in the next campaign. He recorded 223 career litters in 2019.

In his last eight games, which include the playoffs, Mostert has proven he can carry a heavy load, recording double-digit attempts to rush in every game. If the Falcons feel the need to preserve Gurley, they can share the contact between him and a rear able to share the main role.

The Falcons’ offense would take a more balanced approach with a backfield duo who can control the clock and provide a physical dimension to Koetter’s plan. In the past two seasons, Atlanta has ranked 27th and 30th in rushing yards.

    Chicago Bears Defend David Montgomery

No matter who wins the starting quarterback position between Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles, the Chicago Bears should consider complementing ball carrier David Montgomery.

Last season, the Bears ranked 27th on the ground with Montgomery leading the pack, and averaged just 3.7 yards per carry. The front office did not add a notable veteran to the backfield during the offseason, which leaves Tarik Cohen as a change of pace option.

Cohen has had no more than 99 peak attempts in his three seasons. He is more a receiver than a ball carrier at position, recording a career total of 1,027 rushing yards and 1,534 yards as a receiver of passes.

Although Bears general manager Ryan Pace thinks Montgomery can handle a bigger workload in the next term, says ESPN’s Jeff Dickerson, head coach Matt Nagy should not be force-fed the second year professional. Instead, he can spread the workload and challenge opponents with a race plan.

If Trubisky or Foles are struggling under the center, Mostert and Montgomery could take this team to victories as key components of a physical offensive game plan.

    Jacksonville Jaguars Defend Leonard Fournette

Before the April draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars presented commercial offers for Leonard Fournette, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The front office also declined its fifth year option.

Fournette has an uncertain future with the Jaguars as the 2020 campaign approaches. In order to consolidate the position of ball carrier and conduct a competitive offensive this fall, Jacksonville can acquire Mostert and allow its current starter to hit the free market the next off-season.

Jacksonville wouldn’t have to pay a fortune for Mostert, who flashed for the first time in his 27-year season. The Jaguars could also review Fournette’s commercial offers if they are comfortable with Mostert who manages the lion’s share of urgent attempts.

In 2020, Fournette’s contract hit a cap hit of $ 8.6 million, by Spotrac. If the Jaguars swap it, then acquire and expand Mostert, they can still save space. Jacksonville could also keep the two semi-offensives to complete second-year quarterback Gardner Minshew II in the assist game.

Philadelphia Eagles push Miles Sanders away

The Philadelphia Eagles’ ground attack will once again feature the second round of 2019, Miles Sanders, in 2020. Team brass helped Jordan Howard walk for free will after being No. 2 from last season.

In 2019, Sanders accumulated 1,327 meters of scrum. He seems capable of handling the majority of hits for another productive year, but the Eagles do not have much behind him on the depth chart.

Backslashes Corey Clement and Boston Scott have had 203 career rush attempts. Mostert would intervene as more than a reserve, allowing the Eagles to punish opponents on the field.

With the large Alshon Jeffery on the mend after surgery at Lisfranc and the inexperience of first recruit Jalen Reagor, the ground attack could help the Eagles cross potential offensive ruts at the start of the next campaign.

Overall, Sanders and Mostert would serve as a solid duo for years to come, which means less pressure on quarterback Carson Wentz to put the team on their backs as he did last season due to injuries to the wide receiver position.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defender Ronald Jones II

Even though the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected ball carrier Ke’Shawn Vaughn in the third round of the April draft, they may still have an interest in a veteran ball carrier.

Versus tin Jon Ledyard, Bucs head coach Bruce Arians, commented on the possibility of recruiting Devonta Freeman, the free agent, saying “If his price was reasonable. He is asking for a lot of money and we don’t have much silver. “

Depending on what Mostert wants, he could be cheaper than Freeman. They are both entering their 28 year old campaigns.

Freeman has two Pro Bowl seasons of over 1,000 yards on his resume, allowing him to order more money on the open market. On the other hand, Mostert has much less wear on his body with only 178 portages against 951 for the former playmaker of the Atlanta Falcons.

At a good price, the Buccaneers can add a new tailback that can pair with Ronald Jones II and allow Vaughn to regularly follow the offensive.

Keep in mind that quarterback Tom Brady has grown used to working with multiple riders. In 2019 with the New England Patriots, he played alongside three backs (Sony Michel, James White and Rex Burkhead) who all recorded at least 92 hits in total.
