Former President of Barcelona, Sandro Rosell, called the Blaugrana squad holding too much strength. He thinks Barcelona needs a change.
Barcelona just lost the Spanish League title. Barcelona failed to defend the title after losing to compete with Real Madrid. This failure presents pressure for Quique Setien.
Barcelona captain Lionel Messi said his team needed a change. He considered Barcelona to be weak and not good enough. The Argentine star gave an indication that Setien was partly responsible.
The news of the Barcelona squad’s distrust of Setien has long been wandering. The Barcelona players were also reportedly unhappy with the attitude of the assistant coach, Eder Sarabia.
Setien was briefly summoned by Barcelona President, Josep Maria Bartomeu. Through this meeting, Setien’s position is guaranteed safe at least until the Champions League match against Napoli in the second leg of the last 16 on 8 August.
Nevertheless, Setien’s future remains speculated. The latest news says the Barcelona squad wants Patrick Kluivert as Setien’s replacement.
“His squad is too powerful,” Rosell told The Sports as reported Evening Standard.
“You can’t do a revolution, because of exchanges and financial uncertainty (after the pandemic), but there should be a deep evolution,” continued Rosell.
“The squad needs to be updated. Not all of them, but most,” he added.
