Lionel Messi is no longer young, Barcelona may soon be abandoned. That would be a different story like Real Madrid without Cristiano Ronaldo.
This was expressed by the former Barcelona coach, Pep Guardiola. The man from Spain who has been serving as manager of Manchester City for three years explained, Lionel Messi is more than just a goal machine.
“Lionel Messi is more than just a great player. He is the life of Barcelona,” said Guardiola as reported The Guardian.

Guardiola has worked with Lionel Messi in 2008 to 2012. Three Spanish League trophies and two Champions League trophies were struck by them both.
“Lionel Messi is a differentiator. He doesn’t just score goals, but his assists and movements make it very easy for the team. Just ask the players who have played with him,” explained Guardiola.
For Guardiola, if someday Lionel Messi leaves Barcelona, it will be a ‘disaster’ for the Blaugrana. The story is different when Cristiano Ronaldo, who left Real Madrid.
“Real Madrid did get shaky when they left Cristiano Ronaldo, but they quickly adjust. If Messi leaves Barcelona, it will be another story,” said Guardiola.
“Lionel Messi is the best player Barcelona has ever had. It will be difficult to find a replacement, and it might take quite a long time,” he added.
