At last the citizens are running, so they will take the weekend off

Starlin Castro is coming out of a four-shot game. Its Washington citizens have finally achieved their first straight wins in the season. So much for the momentum, though.

This is because citizens – and their opponents Thursday, the Toronto Blue Jays – need to take four days off, a “mini All-Star break” caused by the coronavirus, as Washington manager Dave Martinez called it, because their opponents scheduled this weekend had delayed games due to the coronavirus.

Castro scored twice, rookie Carter Kieboom reached base four times and Michael A. Taylor reigned as “visiting” citizens knocked on the fight to start Hyun-Jin Ryu, in Toronto, to beat Blue Jays 6-4 at home.

Kurt Suzuki delivered a two-stroke double and Asdrubal Cabrera added an RBI double on Ryu (0-1, 8.00 ERA).

Home plate referee Joe West was bloodied when he was hit in the head by Bo Bichette’s flying club in the first inning. The 67-year-old West left but returned to the third.

Indians 2, Gemini 0: Cleveland’s visit by Shane Bieber marked the major league record for a pitcher’s strikeouts in the first two starts of the season, beating 13 Minnesota beats over eight innings. Bieber (2-0) played 14 out of six unmarked innings on Friday against Kansas City. His 27 strikeouts in the two games correspond to the record set by Karl Spooner of the Brooklyn Dodgers in September 1954 during the first two beginnings of his short career. Francisco Lindor provided all the offense Cleveland needed with a two-stroke humerus in Jose Berrios’ third inning off (0-1).

Dodgers 6, Diamondbacks 3: AJ Pollock, Corey Seager and Max Muncy have honored to help Ross Stripling move 2-0 to visit Los Angeles.

Yankees 8, Orioles 6: Aaron Judge hit a three-shot humerus in the ninth inning after New York had an initial lead of five, and the Yankees wiped out an improvised two-game streak. Luke Voit scored his first career grand slam for the Yankees, which lengthened his streak against Baltimore to 18 games and clinched his 17th consecutive Camden Yards victory.

Red Sox 4, Mets 2: Christian Vazquez hit two other homers and Martin Perez gave Boston’s patchwork rotation a necessary pass. Vazquez joined the Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk (1973) as the only Red Sox receiver to hit four home games in the first seven games of a season.

Mariners 8, Angels 5: Jose Marmolejos and Shed Long Jr. have mastered and Marco Gonzales finished seventh for the host Seattle.

Braves 2, Rays 1: Max Fried retired by visiting the top 14 batsmen of Tampa Bay and combined with three lifters on a four batsman. Dansby Swanson had a single for scoring in the second two-shot inning of Atlanta. Fried (1-0) scored seven, walked one and allowed a 6 innings run. Luke Jackson and Shane Greene teamed up for four outs before Mark Melancon finished ninth for his second save.

Royals 5, Tigers 3: Trevor Rosenthal scored an unscored ninth for his first save since 2017 and his visit to Kansas City has passed Miguel Cabrera’s first multihomer game since 2016. Rosenthal, once much closer to St. Louis, struggled with his health and its effectiveness in recent years. Cabrera hit solo homosexuals in the first and eighth, and went deep three times in the first seven games this year after hitting just 12 home runs in 2019. He now has 480 for his career.
