Anthony Davis says the Lakers’ chances “increased” during the break

When the NBA resumes the season at the end of the month in Orlando, four and a half months will have passed without any real form of organized basketball. Translation: there will be a lot of rust to shake off, ideally in the small handful of exhibition games before the slate of eight games that will determine the seeding of the playoffs.

During this time, we also realized that many of us had the false impression that all NBA players have regulatory basketball courts and world-class training facilities in their homes, after learning that Steph Curry and others had to order ( and assemble) basketball hoops online only so they can safely get some shots.

However, it’s hard not to imagine that some of the older players or those who are recovering from an injury can actually benefit from all this free time. This is what Anthony Davis thinks, at least. As he, LeBron and other teammates gathered at the training facility in preparation for Orlando, Davis speculated that the Lakers could increase their chances of winning the title this year thanks to the additional remainder.

Via Mark Medina of USA Today Sports:

“Obviously we lack a key piece in AB, but I think our chances are the same,” said Davis. “Our chances are higher only because we are all rested and we are all ready to go. If anything, our chances have increased and it will only concern those who want it most. Everyone has had a decompression of the season and obviously with things going on, but it’s about which team wants it most and which team can stay healthy. “

AB refers to Avery Bradley, who has decided not to travel to Florida because of his son’s breathing problems. The organization is also not sure whether Dwight Howard will participate, as he was among those who expressed concern about the games that distracted the Black Lives Matter movement.

To strengthen their list, they recently added JR Smith, a former LeBron on the Cavs teammate, as well as Dion Waiters and Markieff Morris. When the season ended, the Lakers took first place in the Western Conference, with 5.5 games ahead of the Clippers in second place.
