Andre Iguodala slammed for Aerial Powers’ Twitter compliment

NBA star Andre Iguodala thought it was a simple compliment. Twittersphere thought it was something completely different.

The Miami guard (AEST) found himself in the middle of a storm on social media on Wednesday when his tweet about the Washington star Mystics WNBA Aerial Powers was accused of being commonplace and tacky.

The former NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors was obviously enjoying seeing Powers in action as his Mystics shot down the Connecticut Sun 94-89.

When he went to Twitter to compliment Powers on his 27 points, his mistake was not to mention Powers by name.

“The number 23 of the mystics is beautiful,” he published.

Despite flattery, Powers was not impressed when he saw the message.

“Respect my name or keep this tweet for yourself,” Powers posted on Twitter.

“We deal with disrespect every day, so for someone like you @andre tweeting that from the same device you could have searched for me on is unacceptable.

“Care that your commentator said my name. Would it have been the same if I was a boy? Look at the picture. I haven’t forgotten. I said what I said. “

Powers also included a screenshot of an incorrect media report that accused Iguodala of previously claiming that he didn’t want his daughter London to play in the WNBA because he feared he would become a lesbian.

He finally made the comments clear by saying that he personally knew several gay players in the WNBA and didn’t want his daughter to experience “the same struggles” that lesbian basketball players endure in the WNBA.

After Powers’ tweets sparked a storm of accusations on the Internet, Iguodala finally replied with a simple Twitter message: “No manners”.

Powers last year starred for the Mystics as they beat the Sun 3-2 in the WNBA finals.

It was the choice n. 5 in the draft of the WNBA 2016.

Iguodala was still in pre-season training at the time of the Mystics championship after his Golden State Warriors had previously been beaten in the NBA Finals 4-2 by the Toronto Raptors.

He was eventually traded with the Grizzlies before ending up in the Miami Heat for the 2019-20 NBA season.
