Amazon Pulls Goods From Washington Redskins

Amazon is removing Washington Redskins merchandise from its site after the NFL called for the team to change its name, widely seen as a racial slur against the Native Americans.

In a note to sellers on Wednesday, Amazon said it would remove a variety of products featuring the Washington team, including jerseys, t-shirts and jewelry. Sellers had 48 hours to review and remove all products reported by Amazon, the notice said.

An Amazon spokesperson confirmed that the company is removing the Redskins merchandise.

“With the announcement of the Washington and NFL team, we are removing products with the team name and logo from our stores,” said the review, shared by Ed Rosenberg, who heads a group of online sellers called ASGTG. “Failure to properly close or delete all restricted product lists in your inventory may result in deactivation.”

The move comes after the Washington Redskins said last week that they would revise their name after several sponsors, including FedEx, called the team to rename themselves.

FedEx purchased the naming rights for the home team stadium, FedEx Field, in 1998 for $ 205 million as part of an agreement that will run until 2025. Frederick Smith, CEO of FedEx, is a minority owner of the team.

Amazon is the last retailer to delete references to the team from its site. In recent days, Walmart, Nike and Target have announced that they will stop selling Washington Redskins equipment.
