The European kitefoil elite meets this weekend in the waters of the Alarcón reservoir to play the first test of the 2020 season of the Formula Kite Spain Series (FKSS) circuit, the Go Sailing Shop FKSS 2020 Alarcón. And they do it in the paradisiacal spot of Valverde del Júcar where more than forty regatitas from Spain and Europe will fight to be the first to win a regatta after confinement.

So there is a lot of desire to compete. The FKSS circuit and the organizing club, the Club Kite Surf Centro, have made a very important logistical effort to return to competition the best European sailors of the kitefoil specialty that will be Olympic in Paris 2024. And the sailors have responded to this effort with a massive registration that far exceeds those registered in this same test last season where 25 sailors were competing in the waters of Alarcón. Sergio W Smit, CEO of the FKSS expressed yesterday: “We are proud that the sailors have responded in a spectacular way to the call of the circuit. We announced the regatta a little over a month ago and they are all here. This confidence rewards us in the hard effort that is to mount this circuit that grows every year. This season we are eight people who form the team of the organization of the FKSS and we are convinced that we are going to improve in all aspects. We also want to thank the effort made by both the CKSC and the Valverde del Júcar Town Hall. ”

One of the maximum occupations of the organization of the event is to guarantee the sanitary norms that are mandatory for the COVID-19 crisis. All people must keep the safety distance and wear the mask as soon as they interact with other participants. One factor that favors keeping distances is the large open spaces that have been set up on the shore of the Manchamar beach in Valverde del Júcar.

For the two days of competition of the Go Sailing Shop FKSS 2020 Alarcón, Saturday and Sunday, which are expected to give up to ten outings in both the Open and Amateur categories, winds from the southeast are expected, the best in this spot. , between 10 and 18 knots, which guarantees a great show in the waters of the Pantano de Alarcón.

In the only freshwater regatta of the 2020 season of the FKSS, the best sailors of the moment in Europe will meet. A relevant fact is that today all the candidates for victory in Alarcón have been seen in training, such as Valencian Alex Climent, Frenchmen Axel Mazella and Theo de Ramecourt, and Russian Denis Taradin. These four sailors are the only ones to have won tests in the FKSS in the previous two seasons. Climent has achieved victory in four tests while the other three have divided the remaining wins. The last to win was the Frenchman Axel Mazella who won the last race of the 2019 season in Tarifa. The Bulgarian Alex Bachev, who had his first meeting with the FKSS last year in the Andalusian event and was in second position, may also be among the favorites.

She is also registered in the Go Sailing Shop FKSS 2020 Alarcón Gisela Pulido. The multiple World Champion has passed the quarantine at her home in Tarifa: “The last test I did was the one in Mexico in March and as soon as I returned, the state was declared alarmed and I was confined, like everyone else. The truth is that I really want to compete. I’ve been training since mid-May and it’s the longest time I’ve been unemployed. And if I am sincere I have to say that it has suited me super well because I had been dragging many competitions and a lot of fatigue and it has been great to be at home with the family. A different life that I liked. I always try to see things from the positive side. I want to do my best trying to make fewer tactical errors, which is the most difficult for me since I have few championships. I’m going to try a couple of foils and I’m looking to see which one I use from tomorrow but I’m sure I’ll come up with something new ”.

Alex Climent states: “He had been since the Spanish championship in February without competing. This is the first event of the season after confinement and the first of the FKSS. We have trained a lot and we really wanted to fight again for a victory. We have gathered a few in the last few weeks to race in a regatta format and we are really looking forward to it. I have seen Mazella and she is going very fast. I’m going to have to use experience and tactics to try to beat him because he’s doing very well. At the beginning there may be some advantage over them for knowing the place but these good people when they’ve been in an spot for an hour already know it and you no longer have the advantage over them of knowing the place, that advantage is very relative ”.

Theo de Ramecourt explains: “This is my first competition in over three months. I had two regattas at the beginning of the year in Abu Dhabi and Mexico and since then, at the beginning of March, I have no longer competed. I am very happy that the FKSS has organized this regatta and that we can compete again. I will also be in Castellón although I will go to France on a quick trip and I will not stay to train with the rest. Here we expect a great regatta with flat water and good wind. It will be something different from that of Castellón because I already know him better and I have a great memory after winning last season ”.
