Some time ago, Renault completed a test day at the Red Bull Ring, Red Bull Racing’s home track and the setting for the first two races of this season. Red Bull Racing CEO Helmut Marko was not pleased with those reasons.
The new Formula 1 season is finally coming again after more than seven months. This weekend, the royal class year will kick off with the first of two Austrian Grands Prix in total. In the run-up to this delayed start to the season, many teams have organized a test day in recent weeks. In this way, the drivers could get used to the G-forces again, while giving the teams the opportunity to get to know the new ‘corona protocols’.
Red Bull Racing recently ran a test at Silverstone, but the week before it was Renault’s turn. The French factory formation did this on the Red Bull Ring, the setting for the first two Grands Prix of this season. In that sense, it could therefore be said that Renault has an advantage over the competition. This message did not go well with Helmut Marko. He spoke of a “grand gesture from Spielberg, to rent out the circuit to the competitor.” The organization of the track is not in the hands of the Austrian formation itself.
However, Marko has not only commented in the media on what he sees as a remarkable choice, but has also personally informed Renault team boss Cyril Abiteboul: “I heard some statements from Helmut in the media and I also have a message from him received, “the Frenchman tells Canal Plus. “I still have a lot of appreciation for him, although he may not think so. Of course we didn’t go for Red Bull. We were there for the drivers. They were able to do a lot of laps there and that might be an advantage for this weekend. ”
