“A little greaish player in Man Utd and wouldn’t sell shirts” – £ 80m asking for too high a price, says Warnock

Former Aston Villa defender is not convinced that a talented director would be the best solution for Old Trafford – sporting or commercial

Jack Grealish would be a “partial player” to Manchester United, according to Stephen Warnock, with the Aston Villa director considered to have little sporting and commercial value for the Red Devils at £ 80 million ($ 101 million).

This is the price the 24-year-old midfielder is said to have on his neck heading for the next transfer window.

United are among those said to be mulling over a money raid on Villa, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having seen Grealish for some time.

The Red Devils have, however, seen Bruno Fernandes thrive in the engine room, with World Cup winner Paul Pogba now in shape and shooting alongside him.

Solskjaer can also call the likes of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood in large attack posts, with apparently little room for Grealish at the Theater of Dreams.

Warnock admits this, with the former Villa defender considering it unlikely that United would spray money on a player who would add little more depth to his ranks.

She said Astro stadium: “It’s the current rate for players, but for £ 80 million I want someone to start week after week.

“When you think about his global appeal for Manchester United, will he sell you shirts week after week to repay a lot of the money it will cost? I’m not so sure he will.

“But who else will buy it for £ 80 million with the pandemic we are getting out of and the clubs can afford to shell out £ 80 million?

“I don’t think they can. That figure should drop considerably and I think it will too.”

Warnock, who spent four years at Villa between 2009 and 2013, added: “If he were to join a club like Manchester United, be with better players, play higher and not have to do three or four jobs on the field. who feel he has to drag the team back to where they need to be, I think he will be a far superior player on a much better team.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows this and understands the qualities Jack Grealish has, this adds to the quality of the United team.

“Would he play every week? That’s what Jack has to train on his head.

“If you were going to United, are you happy to be a partial player?”

Grealish is currently trying to help guide Villa towards the survival of the Premier League, but they remain within the bottom three as things stand – four points from safety with three games left to take.
