6 players under the radar with a chance to shine

The opportunities are plentiful at One Jets Drive now that training camp is underway.

Much of the effort throughout the camp will focus on battles to create jobs. However, just because a player misses a starting job or is seen more as a side coin than a primary option doesn’t mean that he cannot contribute in 2020.

With plenty of starting jobs up for grabs in the Jets’ camp, there will be a handful of players who finish No 2 on the depth board to start the season and even more who are willing to contribute in supporting roles. Here are six Jets players flying under the radar entering training camp with a major opportunity to prove their worth and establish their niche before Week 1.

Wide No. 4 receivers usually don’t get much attention or play a big part in an attacking game plan, but Vyncint Smith has what it takes to change that narrative this coming season.

Smith possesses the kind of electrical skills that can burn an opposing defense at any time. He has maximum breakaway speed and can do a lot to make defenders miss when he has the ball on the pitch. The Jets appear ready with Jamison Crowder, Denzel Mims and Breshad Perriman as their starting three playoffs to start the year, but it will be difficult to keep Smith off the field knowing what he can bring to the table when he has. the opportunity to see the field. .

The 2020 season has the makings of an escape campaign for Smith. His chance to play will likely come in a complementary role, but that should be enough for him to make a difference.
