“Unlikely” Dayot Upamecano at Arsenal

Suggestions that Arsenal have agreed on a commission for Dayot Upamecano are broad on the market, according to Goal reporter Charles Watts.

Tuttosport reports claimed that the Gunners had already reached an agreement with RB Leipzig on an agreement for the 21-year-old.

Upamecano has only one year left for his contract in Germany, and without any extension on the horizon it looks like it will probably be sold this summer.

Valued at £ 40.5 million by Transfermarkt, the defender also has a minimum commission release clause in his contract, however, according to Watts, reports of an agreed agreement are wide.

The target reporter, however, suggested that another target was on the horizon.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Watts said: “Arsenal are very slim in terms of central defender options, even with William Saliba and Pablo Mari.

“I’d like to see them sign another central defender.

“I know they like Axel Disasi a lot in France. He is a young defender who has explored a lot and is interested.

“It could be available for £ 13- £ 14 million, which isn’t masses in this market at all.

“As for (Dayot) Upamecano, the stories at the moment are that Arsenal has agreed on a commission with RB Leipzig for him.

“As far as I know, it’s not like that.

“Arsenal likes him, who doesn’t? He is one of the most talented young talents in Europe. All the big clubs like him and we know what he can do.

“I can’t see him signing a new contract with Leipzig – he has only one year of contract left and Leipzig cannot let him go for free, so they will try to sell it this summer.

“His release clause is £ 53 million, but they won’t get it. They will have to accept less if they sell it this summer.

“Would Arsenal be interested in him? Yes. Has Arsenal agreed on a commission for him? As far as I know, no, and I would still be surprised if they signed it.

“I don’t see where the money is. Unless they make significant sales and play Champions League football, I just can’t see it. “

Phil Spencer of GIVEMESPORT says …

What a blow this will be for Arsenal fans.

Dayot Upamecano is one of the most popular young defensive talents in Europe and an agreement to sign it would have been a huge sign of intent.

While Charles Watts believes it might be difficult to complete a deal, that doesn’t mean that a move is completely off the cards.

Few predicted a move for Nicolas Pepe last summer and Arsenal was able to do it, so perhaps they will be able to do the same again.

It seems unlikely, but you wouldn’t go over them to make a surprise deal.
