The Wimbledon 2020 cancellation had no financial impact on British tennis: All England Club Chief Executive, Sports News

All England Club outgoing chairman Richard Lewis said that there will be no financial impact on British tennis after this year’s Wimbledon was canceled due to a coronavirus pandemic.

The British Grand Slam was due to start on Monday, but was canceled for the first time since World War II after the wreck of the corona virus devastated the island country.

The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) said its spending plans should not be cut.

“It won’t be badly affected. If you have to quit, it is great to have insurance,” Lewis told the UK media next month that he will step down as CEO.

“We are still in a very good position, we are financially very stable. British tennis will be pretty well protected.”

However, the club does not have similar insurance to cover the losses if the Grand Slam is canceled in 2021.

“This is impossible in the current climate,” he said. “When I started in 2012, there was some evidence that things were not insurable due to communicable diseases like Sars and swine flu.

“Immediately afterwards you can’t take out insurance, but pretty soon afterwards you can take out insurance again, the market is returning. So there will be no insurance next year.”

“But just because we made a claim will not affect us in the long run.”

The US Open and French Open will play again in the coming months after a long pandemic stop.
