Some of the records in Lewis Hamilton’s sights

LONDON (Reuters) – Lewis Hamilton hopes to break Michael Schumacher’s record of seven Formula One championships in the season starting this weekend in Austria after the COVID 19 pandemic has been delayed since March.

Below are some milestones that the Mercedes driver and his team can achieve.

7 – title. A record from Ferrari’s great Schumacher. Also successive constructor titles. Mercedes has won the last six, a record shared with Ferrari.

8 – Schumacher holds the record of eight victories in the same Grand Prix. Hamilton is on seven for Canada, which remains uncertain this year, and Hungary – third race of the revised season.

Also Grand Slams (pole, led every lap and fastest lap). Hamilton needs two more to reach the late eight-year-old compatriot Jim Clark’s record.

11 – Longest gap between first and last championship. Hamilton took this record from Schumacher (1994-2004) last year (2008-19) and can extend it to 12 this season.

13 – Most races won in a single season, a record Schumacher shares with Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton’s highest record is 11. This is unlikely to be a year of corona viruses. The sport has 15 to 18 races in its sights, after a record 22 was originally planned.

19 – The Grand Prix won after each round. Hamilton shares the record with Ayrton Senna.

33 – Successive points are ended. An ongoing record from Hamilton, whose last goal was not scored in Austria in 2018.

65 – Front row lock. Ferrari holds this, but Mercedes is at 64.

88 – pole positions. A record from Hamilton, whose 88th was in Abu Dhabi last November.

91 – race victories, a record of Schumacher. The German’s last victory was in China in 2006. Hamilton starts the campaign with 84 victories. He has an average of 10 wins of the season in the past six years.

148 – Most Grand Prix run. Hamilton stopped doing this last year.

155 – podium ends. Another Schumacher record that is bound to fall. Hamilton is at 151.

250 – Most consecutive starts. A Hamilton record.
