Sneijder biography shared online: ‘It is a criminal offense’

A little less than two weeks ago, the fanatical supporters of Ajax, the F-Side, announced by means of a statement that they were completely finished with Sneijder. The hard core of the people of Amsterdam feels betrayed by Sneijder’s love for the city of Utrecht and the football club there.

Sneijder will play his farewell match in the stadium of Utrecht, where the former midfielder also has his own sky box. That went wrong in the F-Side. “He’s never played there. He doesn’t care about the club that gave him the opportunities and training. He shits on the supporters who supported him early in his career,” the statement said.

‘Persona non grata’

Sneijder no longer wanted to see the F-Side in Amsterdam. The statement ends with the following words: “These facts above make you a persona non grata above the N201.”

Sneijder was not easily overrun and reacted a day later with a video showing that he was driving on the N201 towards Amsterdam. The 36-year-old former international sang the song ‘Utrecht m’n stadje’ and shouted: “Yes, the N201 passed towards Amsterdam.”

Book on the market

The quarrel between both parties does not seem to have settled yet. Sneijder launched his biography three days ago. The book is full of passages about, among other things, his football career and his relationship with Yolanthe Cabau.

A few days after the release, the biography is already massively shared via WhatsApp. It therefore looks like a new revenge action from the Ajax supporters.

Illegal

Sharing such content over WhatsApp is illegal. According to the copyright foundation BREIN, which deals with tackling piracy, it is illegal to distribute PDF files from books.

“You may not upload a copyrighted work or link to a work offered without permission. You may also not download illegal offers, ” can be read on the website.

The BREIN foundation makes the comparison with a robbery. “Downloading or streaming without permission can actually be compared to shoplifting: you don’t just take a book or music album out of the store, do you? And don’t you pay for your ticket in the cinema? ”

What is the publisher missing?

Due to the illegal use, there is a chance that less use will be made of the legal offer. This is because less is sold and as a result rightholders can incur financial loss.

The rightholders, in the case of Sneijder’s biography, are that of authors Kees Jansma and Overamstel publishers. The illegal spread is hard for them. In a response, Overamstel let publishers know that they regret the situation. “We have also regretted to notice that the book by Wesley Sneijder is distributed illegally. The publishing house works closely with the BREIN Foundation, which detects and combats copyright infringement and abuse. ”

It is therefore nice for them that the illegal trade seems to have little influence on the sale of the book. “Fortunately, both the paper version of the book and the e-book are selling extremely well. The book was published on Saturday and we have already decided to reprint the book today.”
