1. FC Nürnberg relegated from the Bundesliga last season. Now the club threatens to be passed directly to the third division. There is not much to be said for the rescue, the appearances after the Corona break were too weak.
Dhe 1. FC Nürnberg converts to the third division on the abyss. The nine-time German champion was the big loser in the relegation battle on the last game day of the second after the 1-1 draw at Holstein Kiel.
The Bundesliga relegated team dropped back to 16th place despite an early lead by Patrick Erras because Karlsruher SC also won 2-1 (1-1) at SpVgg Greuther Fürth. With 37 points each, Karlsruhe conquered the saving 15th place due to the better goal difference. The club won only one of nine games after the Corona break and only scored eight out of 27 possible points.
The coach Jens Keller, who was already counted before the missed rescue in Kiel, now has to play two all-or-nothing games in the relegation with his team. Opponents from the third division would be FC Ingolstadt on July 7 and 11, according to the current standings.
Lion Lauberbach (67.) headed the equalizer for Kiel. The Nuremberg professionals dropped to the ground disappointed after the final whistle – the big tremor before the third division goes into extra time.
Only in the beginning everything went well for the “Club” in the Holstein Stadium. The 1.96 meter tall Erras headed a free kick from Johannes Geis. Even the unloved neighbor Fürth was ahead of the KSC. “The team will definitely be a different face,” Coach Keller assured in the Sky interview before the kick-off. He had asked for a reaction to the disastrous 0: 6 against VfB Stuttgart – and initially got it from his team.
No neighborhood help from Fürth
After the FCN leadership, the Kiel took over the game control. Nuremberg goalkeeper Christian Mathenia prevented the equalizer with a strong defense against Lion Lauterbach (18th). A deflected shot by Finn Porath just missed the goal. The final phase of the first half was dominated by the “club” again. Nikola Dovedan (38.) and Robin Hack (39.) lacked some shooting luck, even more it was with Geis, whose free kick slapped the bar (45.).
When Lauberbach headed a cross to 1-1 for Kiel, the KSC had turned the game in the remote duel at the Fürther Ronhof. Neighbors’ rifle aid failed to materialize. The Nürnberger no longer had the power to save themselves. The offensive actions fizzled out. Kiel was even closer to victory in injury time in two post hits.
