OM: after Payet’s example, Eyraud tries to enchant with three players! – Soccer

Desiring to ride the dynamic initiated by Dimitri Payet, who agreed to extend his salary by considerably reducing it, the president of Olympique de Marseille, Jacques-Henri Eyraud, tries to convince Steve Mandanda, Kevin Strootman and Florian Thauvin to do so. as much.

Eyraud wants to capitalize on the Payet example.

Dimitri agreed to divide his salary by 2 for the 2020-2021 season, by 30% for the 2021-2022 season. For the next 2 years he accepted a reduction of 40 to 60%, he gave up his bonuses for European qualifications, and a very large part of his remuneration will only be guaranteed if he is a holder.

Present at a press conference on Saturday, the president of Olympique de Marseille, Jacques-Henri Eyraud, welcomed the consequent financial efforts made by the attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet to extend his contract until June 2024.

Eyraud the hunt for savings

The savings made thanks to the Reunionese, hitherto the club’s highest salary equal to Kevin Strootman (500,000 euros gross monthly), will represent a real breath of fresh air for OM and its finances in the red. However, this gesture will not be enough and Eyraud hopes to use it as an example to encourage other players to follow this path. More than the goalkeeper replacing Yohann Pel, extended a few days earlier, and who also agreed to lower his moluments accordingly, the manager is targeting in particular three big club salaries, reveals The Team this Monday: goalkeeper Steve Mandanda , midfielder Strootman and winger Florian Thauvin.

Regarding Strootman, the deal is simple: real flop since his arrival for 25 M € in 2018, the Dutchman is pushed towards the exit and Eyraud is ready to release him from his contract to save his salary. The Batavian is nevertheless aware that it will be difficult for him to find such a generous employer in the current context and he is likely to slow down his departure… The Thauvin case (€ 422,000 monthly), at the end of the contract in a year, also promises to give headaches JHE.

A possible turnaround for Mandanda?

The idea would be to extend the French international by one year by offering to smooth his salary over this period. But the former Bastian, potentially interested in starting in summer 2021 as a free player, will not be easy to convince. At the end of an almost white season due to injury, the 2018 world champion may indeed give priority to his career despite his attachment to OM.

Finally, hope could especially come from Mandanda (€ 360,000 monthly), undoubtedly excited by the prospect of finishing his career as OM and who, as captain, might also want to lead by example. But then again, Eyraud is going to walk on eggs … Indeed, during the confinement, the porter had been one of the most fervent opponents of the salary cut claimed by the managers. Will Payet’s gesture prompt him to radically review his position? A priori, there is no hurry and the old Le Havre will certainly wait to be fixed on the takeover project carried by Mourad Boudjellal before considering anything…
