‘Miraculous’ – LFC’s 1990 winning team welcomes the 2020 class

When Liverpool won the Premier League title on Thursday evening, members of the last squad made a special toast to reach it in 1990 under Sir Kenny Dalglish.

After 30 years of waiting, No. 19 was delivered in style by Jürgen Klopp’s class of 2020.

A whole host of well-wishers from the 1990 title-winning squad have shared their thoughts with Liverpoolfc.com …

Sir Kenny Dalglish

“The last two years since Jürgen have been very positive. It was awesome. He embodies everything Liverpool stands for. He appreciates and respects everyone who works in the club.

“It’s not just a one-off. Last year they got to one point. This year they lost only one and played two draws. You won the World Club Championship and also the Champions League last year. Forward and upward. We have a lot more happy days as long as Jürgen is there.

“I am very happy about the fans and they are extremely important for the football club. No one has ever run away from it. They mean a lot to the club and everyone in the football club respects them and appreciates the support they receive.

“Thanks to Jürgen and all the boys. Absolutely fantastic memories and hopefully more will come. “

Roy Evans

“I just think it’s fantastic and I’ve been waiting for a long time. All the other trophies I’ve participated in have been won, but not winning the Premier League has been annoying for a long time. But well done.

“A fantastic achievement by our soccer team. Jürgen breathed new life into it and our fans supported the team excellently as always.

“It is great to be a master again and may it go on! It’s great for Liverpool fans and people like me who have been with the club for so long and haven’t seen this Premier League title.

“Ronnie Moran would be proud of it. Ronnie would be right in her cases and he was not one who had celebrated too much. We might have had a few beers, and then he was right about her case and said, “Right, here are your medals, keep going and what’s next?”

“Jürgen and his staff in the back room deserve so much recognition. You don’t win the Premier League and all the things we won without a good team behind us.

“There are a lot of people that nobody really knows, but the owners have done a great job to support Jürgen. It’s a team game, but this team goes back to a lot of people and they all got their fair rewards this time. “

Gary Gillespie

“I think it was a miracle. When Jürgen first came to the football club, he said he wanted to make Liverpool supporters believers from doubters. Well, I think we certainly believe that we can go forward and be a really successful team, as it has been shown.

“It was a great achievement by a great manager and a great group of players, a great group of boys and a great camaraderie across the team. They deserve everything they have. It has come.

“A big loan also has to go to the owners. The FSG has invested a lot in the team and the stadium, the training grounds and everything. So a big thank you to them too. But first and foremost it has to happen on the pitch and I don’t think it would have happened if Jürgen Klopp hadn’t been here.

“It fit perfectly from the day he came in the door and it’s a time to celebrate and they deserve everything they have.”

Jan Molby

“It has been a remarkable season in a remarkable time when you have to face a team like Manchester City and their talent. To allow Liverpool to take on this big challenge and do what they did this year from the first day of Friday night in Anfield against Norwich, they simply blew the opposition apart. A remarkable season that everyone will remember.

“When you talk about winning the title, you’re talking about the owners and their plans, but the key was Jürgen Klopp. He immediately made some statements and one of them was that this team would now run and fight harder than ever. The fans could see that immediately and they liked it.

“He developed a style of play that allows Liverpool to get great results. Yes, there were inconsistencies, but you can only get that if you have better players and Jürgen finally has the ones he wanted. It was really remarkable. “

Ian Rush

“I think it’s absolutely amazing. Thirty years! We never thought it would take that long, but the longer it takes, the more difficult it will be to win it. It just shows what a remarkable job Jürgen has done.

“You deserve it so much. The way they started the season, not only did they win games, but it was a pleasure to see them, and I like that. It is amazing and hopefully the beginning of a new era.

“This is for the younger generation of Liverpool fans. They had to grow up with stories from their parents and grandparents about what it was like for Liverpool to win the title, and now they can experience it for themselves. It is fantastic and it is for them. “

Ronny Rosenthal

“It is amazing and a wonderful achievement. It looks and sounds like you won it for the first time. I am very happy for all Liverpool fans.

“When we won the title 30 years ago, Liverpool did it all the time and they were used to it. To win now after 30 years is basically the first time!

“To be honest, the players will be so proud – much more than 30 years ago because, as I said, we were expected to win. It was nothing new. It was for me because it was my first title at Liverpool, but the rest of the guys were so used to it. “
