Pundit Shearer on how Fernandes changed United

Alan Shearer spoke to the BBC ahead of United vs Norwich City’s FA Cup quarter-finals about how playmaker Bruno Fernandes helped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team find a new level.

This is his analysis:

“He made a big difference. We were well aware of how Man United would like to play. They are an opposing team and they were very good at the pace they have.

“But this guy brought so much class. They were a safe team, they didn’t have this midfielder to unlock the teams’ defenses, if they wanted to sit low in numbers, they had no one to present this killer pass.

“That is the difference now. They used to go to the right, push it forward and the teams can get numbers back. Now he can produce the killer pass and the risky pass.

“He had 10 starts, he has four goals and four assists because of the class passes that he can choose.

“He keeps everything flowing and moves forward, making the players in front of him better players. You create more opportunities and thereby score more goals.

“He pings it in and bubbles it in, and that’s what you want as a striker. Because of this vision, he added a lot more to Manchester United.

“It’s brilliant for a center forward because when you do these runs you want the ball to be delivered and if you don’t, you may stop doing them. Now he has so many options in front of him. “
