Frank Lampard provides double injury update as Chelsea sweat from Christian Pulisic’s fitness

Christian Pulisic will be assessed today after exiting in the second half of Chelsea’s English Cup 1-0 win in Leicester City with pain in his left calf.

The American winger impressed with a strange performance by Frank Lampard, standing out in a first half in which the rest of his teammates fought, but said he felt muscle tension during the second half’s drink break .

He was immediately replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek and had an ice pack tied to the lower leg.

Lampard said he will be checked today and hopes it won’t be something that will keep Pulisic, who lost all of January and February due to a leg injury, out of action.

Andreas Christensen also missed yesterday’s victory over Brendan Rodgers’ team due to a small hip problem.

“Christian felt a bit of calf oppression in the second break, so I took it off immediately,” said Lampard. “We will find out in the next day or so.

“Hopefully it’s nothing that puts him out because we can see what he’s doing in the last two games.

“With Andreas, he has a little problem around his side. He tried to train yesterday and he didn’t feel comfortable, so he’s out of the team.”

Pulisic has scored in both Premier League wins against Aston Villa and Manchester City.

Chelsea face Manchester United at Wembley in the FA Cup semifinal thanks to Ross Barkley’s goal in the second half of yesterday.
