Cardinals Announce First 60-Man Pool

Today is the deadline by which teams can submit their first spring training pool, which can include up to 60 players, to Major League Baseball. Players cannot participate in spring training or a regular seasonal game until they are added to the pool. The teams can change the composition of the pools at will. Players removed from a team’s 60-man team (for reasons unrelated to injuries, suspensions, etc.) must be exposed to other organizations through trade or waiver.

Of course, not all players in a team’s pool are eligible for MLB playtime. Most teams will have well-respected but far-away prospects to get them to do reps without intending to get them on a Major League diamond this season. A comprehensive overview of the unique rules of 2020 can be found here.

The Cardinals’ initial player pool consists of the following players.

Right handed jugs

Left handed pitchers

Catcher

Infielders

Outfielder
