Brighton’s boss, Graham Potter, has confirmed that Tariq Lamptey is fit for Manchester United, although he needed sutures in a bad facial injury on his debut last week.

The 19-year-old full-back impressed his seagull bow when he made a 0-0 draw in high-flying Leicester last week.

Lamptey moved to Amex Stadium in January after asserting himself at Chelsea as a youth.

He made a lonely appearance in the Premier League as a replacement for the blues, but had to wait six months to make his Brighton debut.

“I was really impressed,” Potter said of Lamptey’s appearance at King Power Stadium.

“It is not easy to enter this situation, especially when someone is so young.

“I felt like he was really good at it, and then he got a serious facial injury that is not easy to shake off.

“He got along really well. I was very happy that he got his first and I think you saw his personality and quality and he will get better. ‘

Lamptey was injured in the standoff a week ago – but when asked if he could face United on Tuesday night, Potter replied, “He’s fine, just a few stitches, but he’s fine.”

The same does not apply to central defender Adam Webster, who limped from the game in Leicester with a thigh complaint.

“He’s made good progress, but we’re still waiting for him,” added Potter.

“He’s going to touch and go and of course we have to give him every chance but he could be the only one out of the game against Leicester who isn’t available.”

When Webster is forced to sit out, Potter has confidence that Shane Duffy, a regular defender in Brighton’s defense, will slip seamlessly into the team before the new boss takes office in the summer.

“Shane Duffy was having a difficult time, so it was great for him to contribute last Tuesday,” he said.

“It was first class and a great example for us.

“Nobody was happier than him after the Arsenal game, he’ll always fight and fight for you.”
